Flash Fiction is when a story in no longer than 1,000 words. It gets straight to the point and for the most part is short. There is a main characters, theme, plot and everything that would go into a regular story but everything is denced down to fit the components of what a flash fiction is. In "Fatal light" it is told in short stories that talks about a young mans life starting from his childhood and to when he returns to Vietnam.

The author uses Flash Fiction in the story "Fatal Light". Each of the stories are no longer than two pages and it gets straight to the point. It compliments the story lines because of the war stories that are told and the changes from the young mans life starting from when he was a child. The sections to the stories are short so the reader can feel the quick experience of what the character goes through. This is a fiction but some of the events were some of his personal experiences as well. The short stories consist of when he talks about the time he spends with his grandfather. He goes back and talks about it once again but he cant view the house as he did when he was a child. He refuses the love and fellowship his grandfather tries to give to him. He also talks about his girlfriend Mary and how much he loves her even if she may not feel the same considering the complications with him being at war. He writes her a letter expressing his love and Currey does a great show showing that with the limited words he used to do it with.

Currey is able to tell so much in his stories, enough for the readers to connect and still not having to write as much or be extra detailed with them. He creates a equal importance for all the soilders and their specific stories. I think the flash fiction works for him and as well as it did for me because I like feeling like I am getting somewhere but it could have been a strain for other readers. Pleasing the reader is important but expressing your story the best way you think you can is more important.

This quote shows how every single chapter in the story are very short, and how they bring out the messages and most important points. Chapter 12 only consist of two sentences. These two sentences presents a image that is clear to the readers mind of what the narrator's first impressions were of seeing Vietnam for the first time. The coastline of Vietnam was described as being "pure green into pure blue, innocent, mysterious, dreaming into the sun" (29). This description can also be compared to how the young "innocent" soldiers are after entering the war. They go in pure and innocent and then come out the war changed.
